This article was the second in a series of two I wrote for Heritage, the in-flight magazine of Vietnam Airlines. The project began as a favor to a friend, a photographer who visited Vietnam in 1998. He wasn’t having much luck getting his Vietnam photos published and asked for my advice. Since he wasn’t a writer, I offered to write an article to accompany his photographs.
